Guigal Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2021

Guigal Crozes Hermitage Rouge is a northern Rhône Syrah from the largest appellation of the region, spread around the great hill of Hermitage.

Crozes-Hermitage takes in eleven communes on the terraces and gentler slopes surrounding Tain l'Hermitage, with soils that shift from granite in the north to glacial gravel and loess on the flatter southern plain. It is red wine country above all, and Syrah is the only black grape permitted. Guigal has been buying, blending and bottling across the northern Rhône since Étienne Guigal set up in Ampuis in 1946, and the family's Crozes is aged in large oak casks, which lend structure without dominating the fruit. Of all the northern crus, Crozes is both the biggest and the most approachable, and it offers the readiest way into the region's style of Syrah without the price or the patience the neighbouring hill of Hermitage demands.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with grilled lamb, sausages, roast duck or a peppered steak.
