Gundog Estate Canberra District Shiraz 2024

Gundog Estate Canberra District Shiraz is a medium-bodied cool-climate red with peppery spice and fine bones.

The fruit is split between the Wallaroo vineyard at Hall and Long Rail Gully at Murrumbateman, two cool sites that lean towards lift and spice over sheer weight. Twelve months in 500-litre French puncheons, thirty per cent of them new, tucks the tannin in without smothering anything.

Lavender and blueberry open the glass, then spiced plum, blackberry and a flick of dark chocolate over fine earthy tannin. Pour it at 16 to 18 degrees with lamb, roast duck or whatever is on the barbecue, and expect it to hold another five to eight years.
