Gundog Estate Hilltops Shiraz No.2 2024

Gundog Estate Hilltops Shiraz No.2 is a medium-bodied New South Wales Shiraz from the high country around Young.

Around the town of Young, on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, the vineyards are planted high on red, granite-based soils. Warm days and cool nights give Shiraz colour, ripe fruit and fresh acidity, somewhere between the lighter Canberra style and the richer reds of warmer regions. Winemaker Matt Burton works from a Hunter Valley cellar door and a second base in the Canberra District, which lets him compare how Shiraz behaves from site to site.

Dark fruit and spice over fine-grained tannins. Serve at 16–18°C with barbecued lamb, beef ribs or a hearty mushroom ragù, now or over the next few years.
