Description

Hans Herzog Tempranillo is a savoury, Rioja-inspired red from Spain's great grape, grown organically in Marlborough.

Among the estate's unusual plantings, this variety relies on the warmth of a stony, free-draining vineyard in the Wairau Valley. Hans and Therese Herzog brought generations of Swiss winemaking experience when they planted in the 1990s, and they farm organically and work in small batches. Oak ageing gives it grip and depth.

Dark cherry, tobacco and spice on a firm frame. Serve at 16–18°C with chorizo, lamb cutlets, roast pork or manchego.
