Hay Shed Hill Block 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Hay Shed Hill Block 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a single-block Margaret River white that brings extra texture and depth to the region's signature blend.

The fruit comes from one block of the estate vineyard at Wilyabrup, in the heart of Margaret River, where vines were first planted in the 1970s. Warm days and cooling breezes off the Indian Ocean have given the region its name for Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and this block adds a lemony, mineral edge of its own to the classic grassy profile. Unusually for the style, part of the wine sees oak, used not for flavour but for texture and a subtle toasty note beneath the citrus, gooseberry and lychee fruit. The result is a more serious take on a wine usually made simply for freshness, finishing long and very dry.

Serve well chilled with grilled fish, scallops or a goat's cheese salad. It is lovely young, and the added texture means it will hold and build for a few years in the cellar.
