Hay Shed Hill Vineyard Series Shiraz Tempranillo 2024

Hay Shed Hill Vineyard Series Shiraz Tempranillo is a generous Margaret River red that pairs the fruit weight of Shiraz with the savoury grip of Tempranillo.

Planted in 1973 on a former dairy farm at Wilyabrup, in the heart of Margaret River, this is one of the region's older vineyards, and its first wines were made in the hay shed on the hill that gives the property its name. Winemaker Michael Kerrigan, formerly of Howard Park, bought the estate with a group of partners in 2006. In this blend Shiraz supplies deep plum fruit and a peppery lift, and Tempranillo brings licorice-like savouriness and a firmer tannin frame, giving a more complete wine than either grape would make alone. At 14.5 per cent alcohol it is a full-flavoured style with plenty of flesh.

A natural barbecue red. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with chargrilled lamb chops, chorizo, slow-cooked beef ribs or a hard sheep's milk cheese. It is ready to drink on release and will hold happily for five to seven years.
