Description
HEAD Old Vine Grenache is drawn from old dry-grown bush vines across the Barossa Valley.
Barossa Grenache was long treated as fortified material and much of it was pulled out in the 1980s, which makes the surviving old bush vines a genuine inheritance. They give perfumed, red-fruited wines at moderate weight rather than the density the region is known for. Alex Head has built HEAD Wines around Rhône varieties since 2006. The wine is matured in older French oak so the fruit leads.
Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with roast pork, charcuterie or grilled vegetables. Drink over the next eight years.
