Description
HEAD The Blonde is a single-vineyard Shiraz from a small east-facing site near Stonewell in the Barossa Valley.
The name comes from Côte Rôtie in the northern Rhône, where the two slopes are known as the Côte Blonde and the Côte Brune, and Alex Head applies the same contrast to a pair of Barossa sites: The Blonde grows on pale grey sand over limestone at Stonewell, giving the lighter, redder-fruited of the two. Head came to wine through a biochemistry degree and a decade in the Sydney trade before founding the label in 2006, after vintages at Tyrrell's and Torbreck. The wine is matured mainly in older French hogsheads and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Serve at 16 degrees with lamb, duck or grilled vegetables. It develops over a decade.
