Heirloom Vineyards Adelaide Hills Syrah is a cool-climate red with dark fruit, spice and a fine, savoury structure.

Choosing the name Syrah over Shiraz signals the style: cooler grown, more peppery and built around acidity. The Adelaide Hills suits this approach, its elevation slowing ripening and holding freshness in the fruit. Winemaker Elena Brooks has crafted a wine of crushed plum and dark berries with lavender, bay leaf, pink peppercorn and aniseed, and only a faint touch of toasty oak. The palate is rounded yet taut, with fine, grainy tannins and a long finish.

Serve at about 16 degrees with peppered lamb rump, duck ragu or a mushroom and thyme pie. Already showing some bottle age, it drinks well now and will hold for several more years.
