Heirloom Vineyards Alcala McLaren Vale Grenache 2024

Heirloom Vineyards Alcala McLaren Vale Grenache is an aromatic, fine-boned Grenache from one of Australia's great homes for the variety.

McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide between the Mount Lofty Ranges and Gulf St Vincent, holds some of Australia's oldest Grenache vines, and the grape has enjoyed a strong revival there in recent years. Alcala sits among Heirloom's reserve wines, crafted by Elena Brooks to show Grenache at its most perfumed and graceful. Raspberry, violets, star anise, fennel and dried herbs lead, with red and darker berries gliding over an effortless structure. The tannins give grip without heaviness, and the finish is long and fresh.

Serve slightly cool, around 14 to 16 degrees, with roast chicken, Moroccan-spiced lamb or a platter of charcuterie.
