Heirloom Vineyards McLaren Vale Shiraz is a generous yet elegant Shiraz full of red and dark berry fruit.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate, tempered by breezes off Gulf St Vincent, has made it one of Australia's most important Shiraz regions. Heirloom's version, made by Elena Brooks, favours freshness and lift over sheer weight: raspberry, loganberry and blackberry, with a herbal edge of marjoram and lavender. The palate is dense but not heavy, with a rounded, mouth-coating texture balanced by well-judged tannin and acidity. It shows the more elegant side of a region often associated with power.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with a lamb and rosemary pie, pulled pork or pasta with slow-cooked ragu.
