Heirloom Vineyards McLaren Vale Touriga 2024

Heirloom Vineyards McLaren Vale Touriga is a dry, structured red made from the great grape of Portugal's Douro.

Touriga Nacional is best known as a key grape in vintage port, but its deep colour, floral perfume and firm tannin also make striking dry reds. McLaren Vale's warm Mediterranean climate suits it well, and a growing number of local growers are working with Portuguese varieties. This version pairs bright floral notes of roses and violets with darker licorice, blackberry, tar and iron. It is textural and fresh, with serious tannin, yet well balanced across the palate.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with piri piri chicken, braised beef cheeks or a spiced lamb shoulder. It has the structure to cellar for several years.
