Henriques & Henriques Finest Full Rich 5Yo is the sweetest wine in the house's entry range, a five-year-old madeira made mainly from Tinta Negra.

Henriques & Henriques are among the largest vineyard owners on Madeira, based at Câmara de Lobos on the warmer south coast. Their five-year-old blends are built predominantly on Tinta Negra, the island's most widely planted variety, with 10 to 20 per cent of a noble white grape depending on the style — Malvasia in the case of the rich wines. These entry wines go through a carefully controlled estufa: the wine is warmed slowly to 45°C and then allowed to cool again over a total of 90 days, after which it goes to cask. Five years in oak has given this bottling real concentration, producing a dark, full-bodied and luscious wine. The house's own guidance is straightforward — the dry wines are aperitifs, the medium-dry ones suit smoked fish and cocktails, and the rich styles belong at the end of the meal. Bottled at 500ml.

Ready now, and an opened bottle will keep for months in the fridge. Serve at around 14°C with chocolate desserts, petits fours or Stilton, or alongside coffee.
