Henriques & Henriques Finest Medium Rich 5Yo 500ml NV

Henriques & Henriques Finest Medium Rich 5Yo is a five-year-old madeira made predominantly from Tinta Negra with 20 per cent Boal.

Madeira's four noble white varieties run from bone-dry Sercial to sweet Malvasia, with Boal sitting a step below Malvasia in richness, and blends at this level use them to shade the character of Tinta Negra, the island's workhorse variety. Henriques & Henriques, based at Câmara de Lobos, produce their five-year-old blends through an estufa process set up specifically for these wines, warming and then cooling the wine under controlled conditions before it goes to cask for five years' ageing prior to bottling. The Boal component gives a medium-dark, fruity wine that is a little lighter than the Full Rich or a straight Malvasia, but still full-bodied and notably fragrant, with the mouth-watering acidity that keeps madeira from ever tasting cloying. Bottled at 500ml.

Drink on release; an open bottle keeps for months. Serve at around 14°C with fruit-based desserts, rich cake or chocolate, or with Roquefort and Stilton.
