Henriques & Henriques Malvasia 10Yo is a varietal madeira in the island's sweetest style, with ten years of cask age behind it.

Malvasia, known to the English trade as Malmsey, grows in the south of Madeira at low altitude and gives the richest of the island's four noble white styles. Henriques & Henriques, based at Câmara de Lobos, age their aged-indication wines in cask at the lodges, and a decade in wood gives a wine that is deeper and more concentrated all round than the entry blends. What stands out, though, is the refreshing elegance that comes with it: the residual sweetness is carried by the high natural acidity that survives fortification and long oxidative ageing, so the wine finishes clean rather than syrupy. It is bottled at 500ml, a sensible format for a wine drunk in small glasses.

It is ready on release and an opened bottle will keep for months. Serve at around 14°C with plum pudding or a rich chocolate dessert, or on its own after a meal.
