Henriques & Henriques Rainwater Medium Dry 3Yo is a pale, light madeira in the historic Rainwater style, made mainly from Tinta Negra.

Rainwater is an old export designation, associated with the American trade, for a paler and lighter madeira of medium-dry balance; the name is usually explained by casks left out in the rain on the quayside, though the label now simply denotes the style. Henriques & Henriques make theirs at Câmara de Lobos predominantly from Tinta Negra, with a small proportion of a noble white variety in the blend, and use their own controlled estufa: the wine is warmed slowly to 45°C and then left to cool over 90 days before going to cask for three years. The result is pale and soft, delicate in both aroma and flavour, with enough acidity to keep it refreshing. The house recommend these entry wines as fridge-door standbys, and this one takes well to mixing. Bottled at 500ml.

Drink now; an open bottle will keep for months. Serve well chilled at 10°C as an aperitif with olives and roasted nuts, with smoked fish, or over ice in a highball with tonic.
