Description

Henriques & Henriques Terrantez is a vintage madeira made from one of the island's rarest noble varieties.

Terrantez was almost lost after phylloxera and remains a tiny planting on Madeira, prized because it sits between the dry Sercial and Verdelho styles and the sweeter Bual and Malmsey, giving a wine that reads as dry and sweet at once. Henriques & Henriques is one of the island's long-established shippers, based at Câmara de Lobos on the south coast, and holds one of the deepest stocks of old cask wine in Madeira. A wine of this class is aged by the canteiro method rather than by heated estufagem: the fortified wine is left in cask in the warm upper floors of the lodge and matured slowly for decades under the natural heat of the island, which is what builds the dried fruit, light vanilla and wood character without cooking the wine. This bottling carries 21% alcohol and 72 grams per litre of residual sugar.

It is fully mature and needs no cellaring; serve at 14-16°C in a small glass with almonds, aged cheese or a fruit tart, and expect an open bottle to keep for months.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
