Hoddles Creek Estate PSB Pinot Noir 2018

Hoddles Creek Estate PSB Pinot Noir is a Pinot Noir from a close-planted block in the Upper Yarra Valley.

The initials refer to a close-planted block that sits beside the 1er Pinot Noir vines, across the road from the original Hoddles Creek property. It is a south-facing hectare of terraced rows on duplex clay, planted to MV6 and Pommard at a density several times tighter than the rest of the vineyard. Close planting means each vine carries less fruit, which is why this wine tends towards more concentration and richness than its immediate neighbour. Franco d'Anna ferments it with the same light touch he applies across the range and bottles it unfined and unfiltered.

Dark cherry, plum and a savoury, spicy edge, with more flesh and depth than the estate bottling and tannins that need a little time. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Duck, lamb or a slow-cooked beef ragu.
