How to Drink Australian is Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross's 500-page survey of Australian wine, its regions and its producers.

Lopes and Ross came out of Attica and the Rockpool Group respectively before moving to Nashville, where they run Legend, an import and education business set up to change American attitudes to Australian wine. The book took years and shows it: an analysis of every significant wine region, hundreds of producer profiles, contributions from Kavita Faiella, Mike Bennie and Hannah Day, bespoke illustrations and artwork, photography throughout, and a set of maps by Martin von Wyss as good as anything published on the country. It is the most substantial book written on Australian wine and wine culture in a long time.

Anyone working in the trade should own a copy, and it suits drinkers who want to move past the famous names into the regions and producers shaping the country now. The maps alone justify the shelf space.
