Description
Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec in half bottle is a museum release shipped directly from the domaine's own cellars.
Clos du Bourg is a walled vineyard beside the church in Vouvray, sitting on a thin layer of clay directly over tuffeau limestone, and it is the most powerful and mineral of Domaine Huet's three sites. Demi-sec is the house's middle style, with enough residual sugar to fill out the palate but far from a dessert wine, and it is the level that traditionally ages longest of all. Noël Pinguet, who ran the cellar for decades and moved the estate to biodynamics, regarded 1996 as a great and thoroughly classical year for Huet. This bottling was released from the domaine's cellars in December 2022, so its provenance is unusually secure. At a quarter of a century old the wine is only now coming into its own: refined, aged Chenin with the acidity still driving it.
Drinking now and in no hurry. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork and apple, a mild curry or aged hard cheese.
