Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie 2016

Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie is a sweet Chenin Blanc made from the first selective pass through the domaine's walled vineyard on the plateau above the town.

Clos du Bourg is one of Huet's three historic Vouvray sites, a walled parcel where a shallow clay topsoil sits almost directly on tuffeau limestone, giving the tightest and most mineral of the estate's wines. The domaine was founded in 1928 and remains one of the most closely followed addresses in the Loire. In years with enough concentration and botrytis, the pickers go through the vineyard in successive passes, or tries; the première trie is the first of these and takes only the ripest fruit. Moelleux from Vouvray is fermented slowly and raised without new oak, and the acidity of Chenin Blanc holds the sweetness in balance over long periods in bottle.

Sweet Vouvray of this style can be broached young but rewards decades of cellaring; match it with foie gras, blue cheese or a poached fruit tart. Serve at 8-10°C.
