Description
Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie in half-bottle is a sweet Chenin Blanc from a warm, late-ripening season on the limestone plateau above Vouvray.
Clos du Bourg is the walled vineyard next to the church in Vouvray, farmed by Domaine Huet since the 1950s and generally the firmest and most structured of the estate's three holdings, with only a thin layer of clay over solid limestone. Moelleux Première Trie is made from the first selective pass through the rows, when only the ripest, shrivelled and botrytis-affected berries are taken, so the picking is slow and the volumes small. Fermentation is unhurried and the wine sees no new oak, which leaves the sweetness framed by the high natural acidity Chenin Blanc holds on this site. The season here was sunny and late-maturing, producing a wine in the mould of Huet's other well-known late-ripening years. At 375ml the format matures a little faster than a standard bottle.
Fully mature and drinking now, though well-cellared half-bottles will keep. Serve at 8-10°C with blue cheese, a fruit tart or duck liver pâté.
