Description
Huet Vouvray Le Clos Du Bourg Demi Sec is a Chenin Blanc from the walled vineyard behind the church at Vouvray, made in the domaine's off-dry style.
Vouvray lies on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours, on tuffeau limestone capped with clay and flint, and Chenin Blanc is the only variety permitted. Domaine Huet, founded in 1928, works three sites: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Le Clos du Bourg. Le Clos du Bourg is the smallest and the most calcareous of the three, a walled plot on the plateau directly behind the church in the village, with only a shallow layer of clay over hard limestone. It usually gives the firmest and most tightly built of the domaine's wines. The demi-sec carries a modest amount of residual sugar, which against Chenin acidity of this order reads as weight rather than as sweetness, and it is the style Huet has long maintained ages best of all. This is a half-bottle of a mature release.
Older bottles open out with air; serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, a soft washed-rind cheese or a chicken and mushroom fricassée.
