Isole e Olena Chardonnay 2022

Isole e Olena Chardonnay is a Tuscan white from a Chianti Classico estate better known for its Sangiovese.

Isole e Olena lies near Barberino Tavarnelle at the north-western edge of Chianti Classico, on hillside sites that run to a good altitude. Paolo De Marchi, who ran the estate from the 1970s, planted a small collection of varieties from outside Tuscany as a personal project, bottled apart from the Chianti Classico range and classified as Toscana IGT because the DOCG rules make no room for them. Chardonnay was among them, planted on cooler, higher ground and made in the Burgundian manner, fermented and matured in French oak barrels with time on lees. Ownership of the estate passed to the French group EPI in 2022.

Serve at about 12 degrees with roast chicken, veal, seafood pasta or a soft washed rind cheese; the wine is made in small quantities and will hold for several years in the cellar.
