Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is the estate's most traditional red, presented here in magnum for a table of friends or a long, slow lunch.

The estate sits in the hills near Barberino Tavarnelle in the north-west of the Chianti Classico zone, where the De Marchi family joined two old hamlets, Isole and Olena, into a single property in the 1950s. Under Paolo De Marchi it became one of the benchmark names of Tuscany, and this wine was first made in 1969, quickly earning a reputation as a modern, premium reading of Chianti Classico. Sangiovese leads the blend, with a little Canaiolo, the traditional partner grape of the region, adding softness and perfume. The aim is elegance and drinkability while holding onto the true character of the appellation, and the wine keeps that authenticity as it ages. The magnum format also helps it mature slowly and evenly.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. Open the magnum an hour ahead and pour it with bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-cooked ragù with pappardelle, or roast chicken with rosemary and potatoes. Large bottles tend to age gracefully, so this will also reward a few years in a cool cellar.
