Isole e Olena Chianti Classico in magnum is a classic Sangiovese-based red from one of Tuscany's most respected estates.

The property lies in the north-western corner of Chianti Classico, on stony hillside vineyards, and takes its name from the two hamlets the De Marchi family brought together last century. First produced in 1969, this red was soon recognised as a premium, modern take on the region's traditional wine. The blend is built on Sangiovese with a small share of Canaiolo, the grape long used locally to round out Sangiovese's firm acidity and tannin. The house style favours finesse and drinkability over sheer weight, and the wine holds its character well with time in bottle, something the larger format only helps.

At the table, a big bottle like this suits a shared Italian feast: antipasti, wild boar ragù, grilled lamb or hard aged pecorino. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees, giving it some air in a decanter if drinking young, or lay it down for several years.
