Isole e Olena Syrah Collezione Privata IGT is a Tuscan Syrah made at a Chianti Classico estate as a deliberate step outside the appellation.

Isole e Olena sits near Barberino Tavarnelle in the north-west of Chianti Classico, a property the De Marchi family assembled in the 1950s from two adjoining farms. Paolo De Marchi, who ran the estate from the 1970s, planted a small private collection of varieties from beyond Tuscany, among them Syrah, and bottled them separately under the Toscana IGT classification, since Chianti Classico's rules leave no place for them. The Syrah goes into French oak for its maturation. Ownership of the estate passed to the French group EPI in 2022, and the collection wines remain made in small quantities.

Serve at around 18 degrees with grilled and roasted meats, lamb, or dishes with pepper and herbs; a short decant does no harm, and the wine holds well for a decade.
