Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon McGrath Foundation 2022

Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon McGrath Foundation is a special-label edition of the family's cricket-inspired Cabernet, released in support of the McGrath Foundation.

It's a fitting match: the wine takes its name from the cover drive, and its Coonawarra vineyard was once a cricket ground, found by Peter Barry in 1997 while hunting for terra rossa soil. The McGrath Foundation, set up by Glenn McGrath and his late wife Jane, places breast care nurses in communities around Australia. Inside is estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from the family's Coonawarra and Clare Valley vineyards, matured in French oak for cedar and tobacco notes, with plum and bramble fruit, rich chocolatey depth and firm tannins. The Barry family has been making wine in South Australia since 1959.

Open it for a Boxing Day Test barbecue, or serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast beef, a lamb rack or a mushroom and lentil cottage pie. It will hold well in the cellar for several years.
