Jim Barry Lodge Hill Shiraz 2022

Jim Barry Lodge Hill Shiraz is a spicy, detailed Shiraz from the Barry family's high Lodge Hill vineyard in the Clare Valley.

Best known for Riesling, the Lodge Hill vineyard also grows Shiraz, and its elevation of around 480 metres in the Clare's eastern ranges gives the grapes a cooler ripening period than much of the valley. The site was bought in 1977 by Jim Barry, and the family, still running the business he founded in 1959, has farmed it ever since. The cool nights help keep the wine lifted and peppery, and quality oak is woven through the blue and black fruit, plum and violet notes for a layered, detailed style.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with peppered steak, lamb koftas or a rich eggplant parmigiana. It's drinking well young and will also age for several years.
