Jim Barry Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec Cellar Release 2017

Jim Barry Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec Cellar Release is a bottle-aged Clare Valley blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from a single family vineyard.

Cabernet and Malbec have been blended in the Clare Valley for generations, and the two varieties went in together when Jim Barry planted his first vineyard in 1964. This single-vineyard wine continues that tradition, with Cabernet providing bright red currant fruit and structure, and Malbec adding darker tones. Oak is used conservatively, lending only a subtle spice lift so the fruit leads. The 2017 was held back at the winery for later release, giving it time to build savoury complexity; the tannins are well integrated and the palate balances a little tension with a sweet-fruited middle and a soft finish.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with herb-crusted lamb, a beef and mushroom pie, or grilled field mushrooms. With its bottle age, it can be opened straight away.
