Jim Barry Single Vineyard Eastern Ranges Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar Release is an elegant, bottle-aged Cabernet from the higher country on the Clare Valley's eastern side.

The eastern ranges are home to some of the family's highest vineyards, including Lodge Hill at around 480 metres, where cooler nights help Cabernet keep its freshness and fine structure. Founded in 1959 and now in the hands of the second and third generations, the business has long believed in single-vineyard wines that show where they're grown. This 2017 was cellared at the winery before release. It's a finer-boned style, with delicate red fruits over black-fruited compote and spice, a coiled structure and seamless tannins leading to a long, soft finish.

Its elegance suits roast duck, veal cutlets or lamb loin with a red wine jus. Pour it at 16 to 18 degrees; it's drinking well now.
