Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 73 Shiraz 2022

Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 73 Shiraz is a plush, single-block Shiraz from the Barry family's elevated Spring Farm vineyard in the Clare Valley.

At between about 450 and 514 metres, Spring Farm is one of the highest vineyards in the Clare, and its blocks each have their own mix of loam topsoil over siltstone. Riesling was first planted there in 1979, and since the family reacquired the property in 2006 it has been a source of Riesling, Assyrtiko, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Block 73 gives a silken Shiraz with bramble fruit, violets and cardamom spice, fine emery-like tannins and a juicy, savoury finish with hints of cured meat.

Give it an hour in a decanter, then pour at 16 to 18 degrees with a wagyu rump, venison sausages or duck ragù. It will cellar well for years.
