Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 74 Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 74 Cabernet Sauvignon is a long-lived, single-block Cabernet from the high country of the Clare Valley.

Spring Farm reaches over 500 metres above sea level, and that altitude gives cool nights that help Cabernet ripen slowly and build fine, firm tannins. Riesling was planted here in 1979, and since the Barry family reacquired the vineyard in 2006 it has become the source of several single-block wines. Block 74 is ripe yet restrained, with deep cherry, plum, spice and cigar leaf, coiled tension and a coating tannin line. The family describes it as built for the ages.

This is one for the cellar, but if opening now, decant well ahead and serve at 17 to 18 degrees with a rib-eye on the bone or braised lamb shanks.
