Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 81 Malbec 2021

Jim Barry Spring Farm Block 81 Malbec is a rare single-block Malbec from a north-facing slope at 480 metres in the Clare Valley.

Block 81 lies in the south-east corner of Spring Farm South, with a northerly aspect. It's the source of Malbec for the family's Clarevale Cabernet Malbec, and only in some years is a separate Block 81 wine released to highlight the site. Malbec has a long history in the Clare, and this wine harks back to the region's ferruginous red wines of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with dark purple fruit, dried flowers and vigorous, gravelly tannins. The Barry family has been making wine in the valley since 1959.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with Argentine-style grilled meats and chimichurri, slow-roast pork shoulder or a smoky eggplant dish. Decant if drinking it young.
