Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2022

Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz is the Barry family's flagship and one of Australia's most celebrated single-vineyard Shiraz.

The Armagh vineyard lies about two kilometres north-west of the town of Clare, at 367 metres, on sandy clay topsoil with a pebbly alluvial layer over mottled clay. Jim Barry planted Shiraz there in 1968, and the wine it produces has since become one of the Clare Valley's most famous reds, now made by the family's third generation. The old vines give a wine of concentration and polish, and the 2022 shows blueberry, blackberry, damson plum and violets over a silken palate, with refined tannins, precise acidity, ferric earth and a long life ahead.

Serve at around 17 to 18 degrees after a good decant, with a standing rib roast, slow-cooked beef cheeks or aged hard cheeses. It will reward long cellaring.
