Jim Barry The Florita Riesling 2025

Jim Barry The Florita Riesling is a single-vineyard Riesling from one of the most storied sites in Watervale, in the Clare Valley.

The Florita vineyard was once the source of the celebrated Leo Buring Rieslings of the 1960s and 70s, and the Barry family has farmed it for their top Riesling since buying the site in the 1980s. Watervale's red soils over limestone give Riesling real intensity and a firm mineral backbone. The wine is made in the classic Clare manner, without oak, so the vineyard does the talking. The 2025 is pale and tightly wound, with lime skin, wet slate and white flowers, a core of lime juice and fresh citrus, and a precise line of acidity that carries the considerable weight of fruit through a long, slatey finish.

Serve well chilled, around 8 to 10 degrees. Freshly shucked oysters, Vietnamese herb salads, grilled whiting or anything finished with a squeeze of lime are ideal partners. It is lovely young, and Florita also has a long record in the cellar, picking up toasty, honeyed depth over ten years or more.
