Description

Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz 375ml puts the Barry family's single-vineyard Clare Valley Shiraz into a half-bottle.

The Clare Valley is best known for Riesling, but its Shiraz has a strong following too, and McRae Wood is one of the reasons. The Barry family has made wine in the region since 1959, and this label is one of their most cellar-worthy. Made from the vineyard it is named after, the 2022 has an elegant nose of warm spice, blue fruit and darker purple notes. In the mouth it is generous and full yet restrained, with fine layers of tannin and a long, balanced finish.

A half-bottle is handy when one of you wants red and the other doesn't. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with a steak sandwich, lamb cutlets or a hearty pasta.
