Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz Cellar Release 2018

Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz Cellar Release is a dark, structured Clare Valley Shiraz that the winery has aged before release.

Three generations of the Barry family have worked the Clare Valley since Jim Barry started out in 1959. This label comes from their McRae Wood vineyard, and the cellar release program gives it extra time in bottle at the winery before it reaches the shelf. The 2018 is very dark, with black berries, black forest fruits and dark spice. It is tightly coiled, with an integrated but still youthful tannin line and a long finish. It was built for ageing and has years left in it.

Decanting helps it open. Pour at around 16 to 18 degrees and match with char-grilled beef, a venison pie or a mature cheddar. Cellar further if you prefer it softer.
