Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz Gift Box is the family's single-vineyard Clare Valley Shiraz, presented in a gift box.

In the Barry family's Shiraz line-up, McRae Wood sits just below The Armagh, their flagship. It takes its name from the McRae Wood vineyard, which supplies the fruit, and it has a long history as one of the Clare Valley's more age-worthy reds. The 2022 is refined and polished, with warm spice, blue fruits and darker purple and black notes on the nose. The palate has real generosity and weight but stays poised, with fine layered tannins giving depth and a long, even finish.

This makes a thoughtful present for a Shiraz lover, and it will reward a few years in the cellar. When it is time to open it, serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with beef Wellington, braised short ribs or a mushroom and lentil pie.
