Jim Barry Watervale Riesling McGrath Foundation 2025

Jim Barry Watervale Riesling McGrath Foundation is a dry Clare Valley Riesling in a special charity edition supporting the McGrath Foundation's breast care nurses.

Founded in 1959 by Jim Barry, the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley, this family company is now led by the second and third generations. Watervale, at the southern end of the valley, is prized for Riesling thanks to its elevation, cool nights and red loam over limestone. The wine is made simply, without oak, to keep its lime and floral character intact. The family has supported the McGrath Foundation since 2021, helping to fund a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, and this edition carries the Foundation's name on the label. What is in the bottle is the regular Watervale Riesling, at a modest 11 per cent alcohol.

Serve well chilled with oysters, prawn rice paper rolls, salt and pepper squid, Thai salads or fish and chips. It is full of lime-driven flavour now and, like most good Clare Riesling, will take on toasty complexity with five to ten years in the cellar.
