Description
Jim Barry Watervale Shiraz McGrath Foundation is a Clare Valley Shiraz released under a charity label in support of the McGrath Foundation.
Watervale sits at the southern end of the Clare Valley and is better known for Riesling, but its mild days, cool nights and limestone-based soils also give Shiraz with bright fruit, spice and fresh acidity. The Barry family has been making wine in Clare since 1959 and farms vineyards across the valley. Each year the family contributes to the McGrath Foundation to help fund a breast care nurse, and the Watervale Shiraz has joined the Watervale Riesling as part of that program. This is an approachable style of Clare Shiraz, with dark berry fruit to the fore and oak kept in the background.
Enjoy it at around 16 to 18 degrees with lamb cutlets, beef burgers, sausages off the grill or a rich eggplant bake. No need to decant. It is made to drink on release and will keep for five to eight years.
