Description
Jo Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Amphibolite takes its name from the greenish metamorphic rock that dominates the soils it grows on, and is bottled here in magnum.
Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine sits inland from Nantes at the Atlantic end of the Loire, and its geology is unusually varied for a single appellation, with gneiss, granite, gabbro and amphibolite all giving distinct results from Melon de Bourgogne. Amphibolite, a hard green metamorphic rock, tends to give the most direct and saline expression, and this cuvée is drawn entirely from those soils. Jo Landron farms biodynamically at Domaine de la Louvetrie in La Haye-Fouassière, and the vines for this wine are between thirty-five and forty years old. Unlike the classic sur lie bottlings, it spent only a short time on lees so as to keep as much freshness and cut as possible. Only small doses of sulphur were used, which blocked the malolactic fermentation, and the wine was bottled early in March without filtration.
Drink young and over the next four years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, grilled sardines or Sydney rock oysters with lemon.
