Description

Jo Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Le Clos La Carizière is a biodynamic single-estate Muscadet from 55- to 70-year-old vines on orthogneiss.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine lies south-east of Nantes, close enough to the Atlantic for the sea to shape the growing season, and its grape is Melon de Bourgogne. The Château de la Carizière at Haye Fouassière dates to 1926; Jo Landron took on its vines in 1998 and began converting them to organic farming immediately, later moving to biodynamics. The property covers ten hectares of orthogneiss, a hard metamorphic rock, planted with vines of between 55 and 70 years. This wine is drawn from four of those hectares, where yields are curbed as low as 38 hectolitres per hectare. Harvesting is by hand, unusual in a region that mechanised early, fermentation runs on wild yeasts, and the wine spends ten months on its lees before bottling.

Drinking now and over the next four to five years. Serve at 10-12°C with freshly shucked oysters, grilled whiting or moules marinière.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
