Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese GOLDKAPSEL is a botrytis-affected sweet Mosel Riesling bottled in very small quantity.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr is the steep, south-facing slate slope above Wehlen on the Mosel, named for the sundial set into the rock so that pickers could tell the time, and Joh. Jos. Prüm is the estate most closely identified with it. Katharina Prüm describes the Goldkapsel bottlings as limited-edition, small-production lots of the best Auslese of a season: made from stronger, selected grapes with more concentrated juice, usually carrying a degree of botrytis, and capable of ageing remarkably longer than a standard Auslese, lasting for many decades. Over time they shed some of their sweetness, gain elegance and harmony, and let the complex profile and depth come to the front. Botrytis was less widespread than in some recent seasons, but the estate picked a small quantity of beautiful, clean botrytis through the harvest, and only its two most famous vineyards were bottled under the gold capsule.

It can be drunk now but will reward decades in the cellar. Serve at 8-10°C with fruit desserts, blue cheese, or on its own after a meal.
