Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 1.5L MAGNUM 2024

Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett in magnum is a classic light Mosel Kabinett from the estate's home slope.

Kabinett is the lightest of the Prädikat levels and, in the Mosel, the style on which the region's reputation for weightless intensity rests. Joh. Jos. Prüm has been at Wehlen since 1911, working the steep blue-slate terraces of the Sonnenuhr, named for the sundial built into the hillside in the 1840s. Only Graacher and Wehlener were produced at this level from the harvest, and Katharina Prüm calls the results textbook: intense, fresh and balanced, and deeply expressive of their sites. Wehlen is the rounder and deeper of the two. Fermentation is slow and cool, the sugar is natural rather than added, and alcohol sits well below nine per cent, which is what makes these wines so easy to drink through a meal. A magnum slows the ageing further.

Most will be drunk young, but expect improvement for 10 to 15 years and no fading at 20. Serve at around 10°C with sashimi, tuna tartare, lighter Asian dishes, or on its own as an aperitif.
