Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2024

Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett is a light, low-alcohol Mosel Riesling from the estate's home vineyard above Wehlen.

The Sonnenuhr is the steep slate slope facing south across the river at Wehlen, named for the sundial built into it in the 1840s, and Joh. Jos. Prüm has been its defining owner for over a century. Kabinett is the estate's lightest wine and, for many drinkers, the purest test of both site and season. Only Graacher and Wehlener were made at this level from the harvest, and Katharina Prüm describes them as textbook: intense, fresh and balanced, each deeply expressive of its vineyard, with Wehlen the rounder and deeper of the pair. Pressing is gentle, fermentation slow and cool, and the wine is bottled with its natural residual sugar and an alcohol level well under nine per cent.

Mostly drunk young, though it will improve for 10 to 15 years and hold for 20. Serve at around 10°C with sashimi, tuna tartare, seafood or white meat, or as an aperitif.
