John Duval Annexus Shiraz 2022

John Duval Annexus Shiraz is a single-variety Barossa Shiraz from the family label of the former Penfolds chief winemaker.

After decades making some of Australia's most famous reds, John Duval went out on his own in the Barossa, and his son Tim has since joined him. The Annexus wines each spotlight one variety, here Shiraz from selected Barossa sites. The 2022 shows spiced dark plum, chocolate, sage and sandalwood, with bright mulberry and rich dark fruit, a hint of ironstone, and silty, grainy tannins that frame the fruit through a long finish.

At around 16 to 18 degrees it is a match for grilled rump, beef short ribs or a mushroom and blue cheese burger. It can be cellared for a decade.
