Description
Kientzler Gewurztraminer is the estate's village level bottling of the grape, from vineyards below the crus at Ribeauville.
Gewurztraminer is one of the four noble varieties of Alsace and the most difficult to keep in balance: it ripens to high sugar with naturally low acidity, so a grower has to pick early enough to keep the wine on its feet. At Ribeauville the Kientzler family works the slopes above the town, and this bottling is drawn from the lower vineyards outside the grand crus. Pressing is by whole bunch, fermentation is cool and in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation is avoided and the wine is bottled under stelvin to hold its aromatics. Residual sugar of 22.8 grams per litre reads, for Gewurztraminer, as off dry rather than sweet.
Broad and perfumed with a soft finish, it is the classic match for Munster, foie gras and lightly spiced dishes; serve at around 10 degrees.
