Description
Kientzler Gewurztraminer Haguenau is a single lieu-dit bottling from a named site on the Ribeauville slopes.
Haguenau is a lieu-dit at Ribeauville rather than a classified grand cru, and bottlings like this are how an Alsace grower shows that the ground between and below the crus is not uniform. The estate keeps the parcel separate through picking and vinification, placing it a step above the village Gewurztraminer without the yield and variety restrictions a cru would impose. Winemaking follows the house pattern: whole cluster pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation and time on fine lees to build texture. Residual sugar sits at 24.8 grams per litre, an off dry level that suits the variety's natural weight.
Rich and aromatic with a gently sweet edge, it suits Munster, foie gras, smoked duck and spiced dishes; serve at around 10 degrees.
