Kientzler Gewurztraminer Osterberg Grand Cru 2021

Kientzler Gewurztraminer Osterberg Grand Cru is a late picked grand cru Gewurztraminer from the marl slope above Ribeauville.

Osterberg is a steep grand cru of deep marl with limestone and gypsum, facing east to south east above Ribeauville. The clay rich soil holds water and delays ripening, and growers there often let Gewurztraminer hang well into autumn, when sugar accumulates faster than the fermentation will take it away. Grand cru status restricts the site to the four noble varieties, caps yields and requires hand harvesting. Kientzler works parcels here for Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer with the same reductive stainless steel winemaking used across the range. At 45 grams per litre of residual sugar this sits at the sweet end of the estate's range rather than among its dry wines.

Sweet edged, full and perfumed, it belongs with foie gras, Munster, blue cheese or fruit based desserts; serve at around 10 degrees.
